  1. Be baptised 1. Responding to the Gospel in the NT way Let me get on my knees and pray a prayer after you. Yes / No Can I join your church? Yes / No Here is water. What stops me from being baptized? Yes / Yes!! Following Jesus: Lesson Three

  2. 2. Jesus’ command Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. (Matthew 28.19-20) Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. (Acts 2.3) Then Peter said, “Can anyone keep these people from being baptized with water? They have received the Holy Spirit just as we have.” So he ordered that they be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. (Acts 10.47-48) Following Jesus: Lesson Three

  3. 3. What does baptism mean? Baptizôis a Greek word, meaning “immerse” or “submerge” – to plunge under water, just like a garment was immersed in a dye to be coloured. So what does it mean? Sprinkle babies / immerse those who have decided to repent and follow Jesus Baptism is a drama with 3 meanings: a) A ceremony of washing And now what are you waiting for? Get up, be baptized and wash your sins away, calling on his name. Following Jesus: Lesson Three

  4. b) A ceremony of crossing over from one country to another. They went through the waters, in a baptism like ours, as Moses led them from enslaving death to salvation life. (1 Corinthians 10.2, The Message) Baptism is: • A picture of crossing from the kingdom of darkness to the kingdom of God. • A point of cutting off the ties to the old ways. c) A funeral ceremony – followed by a resurrection. It is not just your sin that is washed away in the water, but also your old sin-loving nature. Following Jesus: Lesson Three

  5. 4. When should I be immersed? And now what are you waiting for? Get up, be baptized and wash your sins away, calling on his name. Jesus’ baptism (Matthew 3.13-17) Following Jesus: Lesson Three

  6. Reading God’s Word (Mark 11.1-19) Transforming the world by praying Thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Memory verse I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. (Galatians 2.20) Following Jesus: Lesson Three
