  1. Welcome to the CHS Library!! Mrs. Marcia Horton, Library Media Specialist

  2. Library Guidelines/Rules • Be respectful of others by leaving the library as you found it! • Be respectful of others by working as quietly as possible! • No food or drink in the library. • Please clean up after yourself.

  3. Hours of Operation • The CHS library is open to students throughout the school day, after school until 3:30 and also during the lunch break. • All students must have a hall pass from their teachers to come to the library during the school day. • Students may come into the library to study, conduct research, use the computers, or to check out/in a book.

  4. Sign in Sheets • Sign in sheets are located at the circulation desk. Upon entering the library all students must sign in and present their hall passes to the library monitors. Hall passes will be signed and returned to the students as they leave.

  5. Copies and Printouts • Printouts from the computer cost .15 cents per page. All printouts may be picked up only after payment at the circulation desk. • All pictures printed out cost .25 cents per picture due to the large amount of ink used per copy. • Copies may be made for students for .15 cents per page. All copies must be made by the library monitors.

  6. Reference Materials • These materials may not be checked out for any reason. They are only to be used in the CHS library.

  7. Encylopedias & Dictionaries • Latest edition of World Book is located in the front near the reference section. • The World Book is also available online. • A large dictionary is located on the counter for your use. • Dictionaries are also available for you to use at your seat and are located in the back corner near the window.

  8. Fiction • Fiction books are read for entertainment and fun. • These books are located in built in shelving along the red wall. • The books are alphabetized according to the author’s last name. • The library also has a Mississippi Collection located beside the other fiction books. This section contains books written by and about Mississippi authors.

  9. The Stacks • The stacks are free standing shelves where you will find books on everything from fly fishing to modern technology, to World War I, to foreign lands and beyond. • The material located here is factual material which may be used for research or just to increase your knowledge of particular areas of interests. • Books in the stacks can be located using the dewey decimal system. Students can locate books of interest by using the card catalog located on all computers in the library.

  10. Computers • During lunch and after school students are allowed to use only the computers facing into the library. These will be turned on each day for student use. • The other computers are only used when a teacher brings their entire class into the library for a specific purpose. • Students are only allowed to use the computers for classroom assignments and research. Students are not to use the computers for shopping, checking personal emails, etc. • All students should sign in at the circulation desk and mark which computer they are using.

  11. Remember… • Be respectful and follow all the rules. • Be quiet and always focus on your work. • The library monitors are here to assist you. • Mrs. Horton will be glad to assist you with your work and recommend a good book to read.
