  3. Objectives • Know what Renaissance means, where it began, and when it began. • What did Renaissance art portray? • Who were some of the key players in the Renaissance?

Renaissance – “Rebirth” • Rebirth of knowledge and learning • Began in the 1300s during the transition between medieval times to the early modern world. • Renaissance thinkers explored the richness and variety of the human experience. • People became less interested in thinking about God, heaven and the saints, and more interested in thinking about themselves, their surroundings and their everyday lives.

  5. Italy • The Renaissance began in Italy • Center of the Roman Empire. • Center for church, which supports artists. • Became the center of trade with the Muslims. • Because of trade, banking, manufacturing, and merchant networks were made.

  6. The Renaissance artwork used classic Greek and Roman backgrounds. Began using perspective to give artwork a 3-d feel. Used shading to give objects a round and real appearance. Humanism – painted well known people of the day. The Artwork
