  1. Clouds’ Reaction to Aerosols By Federico Montemayor Texas Tech University

  2. Thesis Statement • The objective of this literature review is to synthesize the research of the effects of aerosols to clouds, and how clouds react to the aerosol pollution.

  3. The Clouds’ Reaction in Relationship with Temperature Changes • Aerosol’s modifying microphysics, radiative properties, and lifetime of clouds (Yan Huang et al) • Cloud alteriation of radiation both at top and bottom (Yan Huang et al) • Dynamics of atmosphere changes weather and climate (Andreae et al)

  4. Aerosols Level V.S Clouds Reaction • Increase aerosols pollution directly proportional to increase of precipitation (changes of microphysics). (Lee et al) • Quantity of aerosols relationship to cloud reaction is now part of research. (Xue et al)

  5. Specific Clouds and Their Reaction to Aerosols • Lifetime of clouds and aerosol concentration. (Jiang et al) • Cumulus clouds’ importance to the transport of moisture and energy. (Jiang et al) • Increase of aerosol levels change anvils shape. (Koren et al)

  6. Conclusion • Clouds have a very dynamic behavior, therefore hard to study. • Research of aerosols’ effect on clouds is recent and not yet fully discovered. • There are different methods to study clouds, yet there has not been found the best way to dissect their behavior. • There is still much to research, so it is just about time and research to answer many unanswered questions.
