  6. WHAT IS A NAICS CODE? A NAICS code consists of six (6) digits. The first two digits indicate your economic sector. The third digit indicates your industry subsector. The fourth refers to your industry group. The fifth refers to your industry. And the sixth digit specifies an industry that is specific to the U.S., Canada, or Mexico.

Why do I need NAICS Codes? • All Government Contracting Offices require NAICS codesto determine eligibility to bid on contracts. • To be eligible for an award, businesses must meet the definition of a small business and meet the small business size standard of the NAICS code assigned by the Procurement Contracting Officer (PCO). • Procurements under $3,000 in value do not require a NAICS code (Government Purchase Card – credit card buys).

Therefore, a basic way to find solicitationsthat you may be able to perform is to search by your NAICS codes. 6. You don’t have to have the solicitationNAICS code listed on your SAM registration web page to qualify.

ABOUT SAM • SAM is an online system developed by the General Services Administration (GSA) • Consolidates the information in: • Central Contractor Registration (CCR) • Federal Agency Registration (FedReg) • Online Representations and Certifications Application (ORCA) • Extended Parties List System (EPLS) • New system is located at www.sam.gov • Provides users one login • Access to the data previously included in several legacy systems
