  5. The survivors of Abuse Buddying project: outcomes • Our Buddying service helped some vulnerable older people in Croydon to : • Work through their experience and come to terms with it • Regain their identity • Identify their values and priorities – dignity challenge 5 • Break patterns of behaviours that made them vulnerable to abuse • Access community facilities and services. • Create a positive vision for their future – dignity challenge 9 • Pursue their dreams and passions – dignity challenge 4 • Make friends and get support from other ‘survivors’

  6. Money Management Project – Subject to funding • Many older people are lonely and isolated after losing a partner or an • ability • They are at risk of being financially abused • They have difficulty in accessing their money safely and accountably • There are difficulties in getting around provider policies not to allow staff to • access monies for clients

  7. The survivors of Abuse Buddying project • Testimonials • “I has been a wonderful thing to have a buddy and share experiences. Before I met my buddy, I was isolated and repressed. I now have hope and know that there is help out there.” C.R • “I was on my way to recovery but making slow progress. The buddying service helped me to recover quicker from the financial abuse I experienced. I have learnt to say ‘no’ when people ask me for money. I also learnt that I don’t have to struggle on my own as there is plenty of help, should I need it in the future.” P.S • “I have not recovered yet because I have financial problems. However, having help has been very good because I have someone to talk to about things. My buddy helped me to cope better with my situation. My buddy also helped me to attend organized walks and keep fit. I am hoping to make more friends.” M.J
