  6. NEXT Project Base Scope • Beamlines: Develop (design, engineering, fabrication/procurement, assembly, testing, installation) best-in-class insertion-device-based beamlines. Beamline hardware installed and ready for commissioning with X-ray beam. • Beamlines to match best-in-class properties of ID sources. • Beamlines + sources, taken together, to match beamline scientific requirements • World class science capability will be delivered by the NEXT beamlines in the base scope • Base scope includes provisions for future upgrades and continued development • Endstations: Provide all hardware required to bring beam to the experimental endstations, including endstation enclosures, utilities, interlocks, safety systems

NEXT External Dependencies • IDs and FEs • Requirements, specifications, and interfaces (RSI) to be prepared by NEXT Project • Assume IDs and FEs will be provided by NSLS-II funds • SIX endstation satellite building • RSIs to be prepared by NEXT Project • Assume building to be designed and constructed by NSLS-II funds • Endstations • Much NEXT endstation hardware exists at NSLS today and will continue to be developed and enhanced prior to being moved to NSLS-II in FY2014-5 • Potential funding for future endstation upgrades, to enhance the NEXT experimental programs: • NEXT project cost contingency, which can be freed up as NEXT project procurements proceed and associated risk is retired • Investments from potential Partner Users for NEXT beamlines • NSLS-II operations funding

NEXT Project Staffing • Scientific staff • All 6 permanent Level 2 Manager positions have been filled: 5 are on board (ESM, FXI, ISR, ISS, and SMI), and the 6th(SIX) will begin ~May 2012. • Beamline scientists • 6 positions are being posted, with the goal of filling them in the first half of FY13. • Mechanical Engineers • 3 mechanical engineering positions have been filled: 2 arein place and the 3rd will start in April 2012. • Mechanical engineering for a 4th beamline is being accomplished via an MOU with BNL’s Condensed Matter Physics and Materials Science Department. • A 5th mech. eng. position is posted and interviews are underway, with the goal of filling it during FY12. NEXT Staffing Plan Total estimated FTEs = 143 • Management staff • Project Manager, ES&H Manager, QA Manager, Project Controls Specialist, and Admin all filled with permanent staff • Support staff • Support staff will be matrixed from existing PS staff

  13. NEXT Funding Profile at CD-1 • FY13 budget request and out-year guidance flattens the funding profile and stretches it into FY16 • Result: extension of NEXT CD-4 by a full year, to 3Q17, with early completion in 4Q16. ($M)

ABBIX Project Staffing • Scientific staff • The LIX beamline Level 2 Manager position has been filled and is in place • Interviews for the AMX/FMX Level 2 Manager position have been completed and a decision is expected soon. • Beamline scientists • 3 positions are being posted, with the goal of filling them in the first half of FY13. • Mechanical Engineers • 2 engineering positions have been opened, one for FMX/AMX and one for LIX. Interviews are underway. • Management staff • Project Manager, ES&H Manager, QA Manager, Project Controls Specialist, and Admin all filled with permanent staff ABBIX Staffing Plan Total estimated FTEs = 80 • Support staff • Support staff will be matrixed from existing PS staff

ABBIX project funding • NIH ARRA funding (12M$) for Insertion Devices and Front Ends received – 2010 • ABBIX project beamline partial funding received from NIH – August 2011 • Common beamline systems (PPS, EPS, Utilities, Control Station), totaling ~3M$, to be provided by NSLS-II • Assumed Funding Profile • ABBIX project is forward-funded : no problem matching cost profile, which will peak in FY13-14
