  3. Agenda Books • All students will copy their homework assignments into their agenda book daily. • The agenda book needs to be signed by a parent/guardian on a daily basis.

  4. ELA Homework Policy • The 4th grade team’s homework policy is as follows: • All students will copy their homework in their agenda/assignment book daily. The agenda book should be signed on a daily basis by a parent/guardian. • Homework can be done with adult supervision, but the student should complete the assignment. • All homework should be returned by the assigned date. Assignments not turned in on the date will not receive full credit.

  5. Homework Policy Cont. • Homework is assigned daily. Notes to excuse or extend assignments will not be accepted, unless under extreme circumstances. • Students’ who are absent should see the teacher for each subject immediately. • Make up work (class work and homework) should be completed in a timely fashion. For every day absent, he/she will have a day to make up that work.

  8. Word Study THEN Assigned word lists Little or no connection to curricular areas or each other The weekly assignment: “Find and write a definition for each word,” or “Use each word in a sentence” A test came at the end of the week (rote memorization)

  9. Word Study NOW • Word lists are organized through meaningful roots or patterns • Expand and deepen word knowledge during content-area study • The weekly assignment: “Meet the Root, Combine and Create, Read and Reason, Extend and Explore” • Applied spelling and language conventions tests

STEPS FOR SOARING TO SUCCESS Step 1: GREEN GOAL LEVEL • Everyone starts here when you follow the Phelps Luck Elementary School expectations of: • Respect Self • Respect Others • Respect Property STEP 2: YELLOW STOP AND THINK LEVEL • Student will be asked to move to another area. • STOP AND THINK FORM completed • Teacher conference STEP 3: RED: STUDENT SUPPORT LEVEL If the behavior continues the teacher will seek office support

  14. Fabulous Falcons • Fabulous Falcon incentive tickets are used through out the school day. Students can receive Falcons during their bus ride and during the school day. • When a student demonstrates the expected behaviors (Respecting self, others, and property) they receive a Falcon. The Falcons are redeemed for incentives in the classroom, team, or school-wide. Class Dojo • A real time behavioral management tool • Engages students, tracks data and focuses on positive behaviors • Parents have access from home

  15. How can parents support PBIS at home? • Talk with your child about what it means to respect self, others and property at home. • Focus on the positive things that your child does at home and talk about why these behaviors are important to you. • Assist teachers in the classroom with management of the PBIS program if needed.

Working Together & Professional Development Rationale: To provide all students with enriching differentiated instruction • Teachers co-teach in Reading and Math • Teachers co-plan on a weekly basis • Teachers participate in quarterly long range planning sessions • On going professional development on best practices and Common Core • Monthly meeting with Reading and Math Support Teachers

  17. Accessories • Cell phones are not encouraged to be brought to school. • Students can make phone calls on the classroom phone and in the office with the help of an adult. • However, cell phones that are in school must be kept off and in the child’s backpack during the school day.
