Overview of the programme The programme has 7 open learning units • Informed choice for everyone: valuing diversity • Screening in antenatal and newborn care • The parent perspective on screening • Informed choice in antenatal and newborn screening • Getting the best from the consultation • Understanding and communicating risk • Understanding genetics Revised November 2005

Additional components The programme is enhanced by the inclusion of: • an overall pre-test to identify learning priorities • pre and post tests for each unit • focused learning activities • a workbook to record learning • a toolbox of resources • the facility to work on-screen or in hard copy print format Revised November 2005

  4. Key features of the units Each unit • has been developed with subject experts • Is grounded in reality and includes practice based activities • draws on women’s real life experiences • develops knowledge and skills in a realistic and dynamic way Revised November 2005

  5. Key features (2) Each unit • represents approximately 2-3 hours of learning • Can be studied at coreoradvanced levels Revised November 2005

Continuing Professional Development • Endorsement of the learning materials is being sought by the following organisations: • RCM • RCOG • RCGP • College of Radiographers • National Genetics Education and Development Centre • Linkage to the Knowledge and Skills Framework (KSF) Revised November 2005
