  1. SOL 7.14:The student will be able to solve one and two step equations in one variable One and two step Equations

  2. Let’s remember… Equation: An equation contains Variables, Symbols, Numbers, and Equal sign x + = 5 7

  3. To solve an Equation: To solve an equation means to find every number that makes the equation true. x x + = 5 7 2 =

  4. Getting to know the Algeblocks: It represents the Variable in the problem It represents the Number in the problem

  5. Solving 1-step equations involving addition and subtraction.

  6. + + = _ _ The equation mat: Place here positive variables or numbers Place here negative variables or numbers

  7. + + = _ _ Solve X + 2 = -5 Remove all zero pairs The answer is X= -7 Take away the +2 using the opposite Leave the variable by itself

  8. + + = _ _ Solve w - 2 = 3 Remove all zero pairs The answer is w = 5 Leave the variable by itself Take away the -2 using the opposite

  9. Time for practice:Find the value of the variable using algeblocks. 1) H – 3 = 6 5) a – (- 4) = 6 H = 9 a = 2 2) y – 2 = -7 6) p – (-2) = 3 y = -5 p = 1 3) K + 1 = 6 7) L + (- 1) = -2 K = 5 L = -1 4) m + 5 = -1 8) g + (-2) = 1 m = -6 g = 3

  10. Solving 1-step equations involving multiplication and division.

  11. + + = _ _ Solve 2g = 6 Divide 6 in two equal groups Each variable equals three =

  12. Equations involving division: x = -2 4 To solve this kind of problems do the opposite of division. x = -2 4 4 4 X = -8

  13. Time for practice:Find the value of the variable using algeblocks. 1) 3 H = 6 5) a /3 = 6 H = 2 a = 18 2) 2y = -8 6) p/4 = -3 y = -4 p = -12 3) 6 K = 6 7) L/-3 = -2 K = 1 L = 6 4) -5 m = -5 8) g/-5 = 1 -m = -1 g = -5
