  2. The Prompt: • Think critically as you read the following passage: “I think that Chris McCandless was bright and ignorant at the same time. He had no common sense, and he had no business going in to Alaska with his Romantic silliness. He made a lot of mistakes based on arrogance. I don’t admire him at all for his courage nor his noble ideas. Really, I think he was just plain crazy.” -- Shaun Callarman • Prompt: Explain Callerman’s argument and discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with him. Support your position, providing reasons and examples from the text.

  3. Steps to take: • Make a Do/What Chart for the prompt (verbs/objects) • Find the argument in Callarman’s quote. • Jot down some ideas that come to mind: Do you agree or disagree with Callarman? Why? • Draft your thesis statement. • Figure out the main ideas of your body paragraphs and what the topic sentences might be. • Select quotations from the ITW text that support your position. “…” (Last #).
