  2. Visual Arts Standards • 5.0 Students apply what they learn in the visual arts across subject areas. They develop competencies and creative skills in problem solving, communication, and management of time and resources that contribute to lifelong learning and career skills. They also learn about careers in and related to the visual arts.

  3. Careers in Character Development • Animator • Video game artist • Special effects artist

  4. Vocabulary • Plaster wrap = cotton gauze imbedded with plaster; strips are dipped into water and then draped onto a 3-D form

  5. Vocabulary • Superhero = a benevolent fictional character with superhuman powers

  6. Vocabulary • Villain = a cruelly malicious person who is involved in or devoted to wickedness or crime

  7. Objectives • All students will become proficient in… Sculpting with plaster wrap Character development

  8. Materials Plastic mask forms (1 per student), plaster wrap, chip board, acrylic paints, assorted embellishments

  9. Project Requirements • Character must be completely original (in no way resembles an existing superhero or villain). • Features must be modifiedfrom the original plastic mask form as plaster is added. • Face is painted and embellished as needed to create the original character.

  10. Project Requirements • A hanger is attached to the back. • A typed character story (must include name of character, his/her special abilities, and how he/she acquired these abilities in a well-written paragraph) • Finished work is presented to the class.

  11. Due Dates: • 10 character thumbnails in sketchbook: Friday 3/22 • Character rendering & story rough draft in sketchbook: Friday 4/5 • Project complete:TBA
