  5. Coca-Cola Scholarship The application is now open. Merit based scholarship. Applicants should have strong leadership skills, GPA 3.0, extracurricular activities, including community service. Scholarships range from $10,000 to $20,000. • Applicants must apply online at www.coca-colascholars.org

  6. BigSun Scholarship • All student athletes are eligible for this award • Must be a senior attending a post secondary institute and currently involved in a sport at that institution or community • www.bigsunathletics.com for more info • Deadline: June 22, 2012 • Amount of Award: $500

  7. NASSP/Herff Jones Principal’s Leadership Aware Scholarship Program • Ranging from $1000-$12,000 will be awarded 100 seniors from 50 states • Winners are selected by leadership skills, academic record, volunteer work, etc.

  8. NASSP/Herff Jones Principal’s Leadership Aware Scholarship Program • Students CANNOT apply; must be NOMINATED by their high school. • 1 student may be nominated per high school • Nominees will be in 20% of their class

  10. Davidson College (John Montgomery Belk Scholarship) • The Belk Scholarship recognizes and awards students of demonstrated superior intellectual and personal achievement and significant leadership. • If interested see Ms. Venega in Guidance.

  11. Davidson College (John Montgomery Belk Scholarship) • Up to 8 scholars will be chosen in Davidson’s Class of 2016, each receiving an annually renewable scholarship equal to the college’s fees (valued in 2011-12 at $49,723.) • Deadline for prescreen application is Nov. 4, 2011.

  12. Selective Service • If you are a man ages 18-25 and living in the US, then you must register with Selective Service. According to law a man must register with Selective Service within 30 days of his 18th birthday. • Register at any Post Office or online at http://ww.ss.gov

Foot Locker Athletes • Applicants must be currently involve in high school sports, intramural sports, or community based sports. • GPA requirement is 3.0 and plan to attend a four-year university in the fall of 2012, be born after 9/1/1991, and a permanent legal resident. • Go to: www.dosomething.org/footlocker • NOMINATION DEADLINE: December 19, 2011 • APPLICATION DEADLINE: January 9, 2011

  15. SAT & ACT Announcement • Seniors and Juniors: If you eat free or reduced lunch you may be eligible for a fee waiver for the SAT Test and College Applications. See your Guidance Counselor for information.

  17. S.G.A Meeting!!!!! • Wednesday, November 9th @ 3:10pm in room 814. • It is imperative that you attend this meeting. Pictures will be taken for the yearbook!!!!

  18. ROTC • All former ROTC cadets who have not returned your uniforms and is no longer in ROTC during this semester will be charged for the cost of uniforms. To prevent being charged return your uniform no later than Wednesday, November 9, 2011.

  19. Teacher Cadet Food and Clothing Drive • Please bring coats, jackets, sweaters, scarfs, mittens, gloves, hats to Ms. Marie in Room 811. Canned or non-perishable items can be dropped off here. • HELP MAKE SOMEONE’S HOLIDAYS BLESSED BY CARING FOR THOSE IN NEED.

  20. Breakfast Buddies • Anyone else who would like to join is welcome. • Applications are due before the end of the first week of December, turn in at Room 811. • Will restart in January for 2nd semester.

  21. STUDENT OF EXCELLENCE • Student of Excellence applications for ALL grade levels are available in guidance and are due back to the counselor on November 18, 2011.

  27. Dressing for Success • Teachers are encouraged to offer classroom incentives to students who “Dress for Success.” Each week a student will be randomly selected by administration to receive a $10 gift card to www.MyLocker.net for the purchase of Purnell Swett gear.

  28. SAT & ACT DEADLINES! • The deadline for the December 3, 2011 SAT Test is November 8, 2011.

  29. SAT & ACT DEADLINES • December 10, 2011 ACT Test is November 4, 2011. Late fee required date is November 5-18, 2011. • Students may register online for the SAT/ACT Test or pick up an application in Guidance.

  32. Attention all Athletes! • Physicals are offered @ : First Health Pembroke, Maxton Medical Clinic, & Deese/Locklear Chiropractic in Pembroke

  33. Bowling Tryouts  • Bowling tryouts will be held on Wed. Nov 9. You MUST have proof of a physical to attend. • Students will meet in the main gym immediately after school. Transportation to and from the bowling alley will be provided. Have parents pick you up between 5:30-6:30 @ school. If you have any questions, see Mrs. Nancy Hunt 

  34. PSHS Swim Team! • It is not too late! Any male or female interested in joining the PSHS Swim Team this year. Please see Ms. Waite in the chorus room.

  35. Softball • There will be a mandatory meeting Wednesday, November 9th, immediately after school (3:10 pm) in MOBILE 7 for all girls interested in playing softball this year. The meeting should not last more than 30 min.

  38. Seniors interested in taking the compass test for any Community College in the state of NC need to sign up in the guidance office. The first 23 students will be tested on February 7, 2012 @ 8:30am. Transportation will be provided to RCC. For additional information, see Ms. Venega in guidance.

  39. ATTENTION SENIORS • Seniors planning on going on the Senior Trip: • The first deposit deadline has been extended until Friday, November 12. 15 seats need to be filled!! • Please see Ms. Demetrice in Guidance for more info. 

  45. To the Junior Class: Student of Excellence applications for 11th grade students are now available in guidance. Deadline to turn in application please see your 11th grade counselor.

  47. 10th and 11th Grade Students • If you are interested in taking the Teacher Cadet class next year, you must sign up in guidance this semester. • Must have: 3.0 GPA, two letters of recommendation and be selected from the interview committee

  48. Teacher Cadet • If you are interested in the education field (to include teachers, counselors, administrators, social workers or coaches) this class will help to develop a better understanding of the role they play.
