  3. Introduction 4th Grade Writing Assessment A Today we will begin working on a writing assessment all Independence 4th graders will complete. This is your chance to show where you are as a writer and demonstrate your writing skills.

  4. Clear EVERYTHING off your desk except: Pencil 2-3 sheets of clean paper You will use your own paper for taking notes and planning. Across the top of each clean sheet, print your name.

  5. Your assignment: • In Session 1, you will: • Watch a video and take notes • Read a website handout and take notes • Answer three constructed response questions • In Session 2, you will write a letter to • your family convincing them your vacation plan is the best choice.

  6. Session 1 You will now watch a video. Take notes because you may want to refer to your notes while writing your letter. The video will be played twice.

  7. 5 Minutes Rocky Mountain National Park

  8. 15 Minutes You will now read information from a website handout. Take notes because you might want to refer to your notes while writing your letter. You may write notes on the website handout or on your own paper.

  9. Directions Use the remaining time to finish reading and answer the questions. Your teacher will provide you with a constructed response paper.

  14. Your Assignment • Imagine your family has asked you to plan a trip. Choose between the Colorado Rocky Mountains or the Sanibel/Captiva Florida beaches. Write a letter to your family convincing them your vacation plan is the best choice. • You may use: • Any notes you have taken • The website handout • Your written constructed response answers

  16. 70 Minutes You will now have 70 minutes to: Review your notes and sources Plan your vacation Draft and revise your letter You may also refer to the answers you wrote in Session 1, but you cannot change those answers. Leave this slide visible during entire work time.
