  1. Not Ashamed Co For I Am Of the Gospel

  2. Part 2 - Not Ashamed Romans 1:8-17

  3. The book of Romans is the “quintessence and perfection of saving doctrine” according to 17th century Puritan Thomas Draxe and the “purest Gospel” in Martin Luther’s words. Romans is a foundational book to Christian doctrine and an essential book for understanding God’s perfect law of Liberty. It has been regarded as the New Testament counterpart to the Old Testament book of Deuteronomy. Paul writes this book to a group of believers living in Rome in anticipation that he will one day visit and minister to them in person.

  4. Paul’s opening address to the Romans focuses upon the power and prominence of the gospel (4 references in first 16 verses) culminating in Paul’s bold declaration that he was not ashamed of the gospel or more literally the “good news.” The good news that Paul proclaimed was the message that the power and path to salvation was through belief in the finished work of Jesus Christ in His death and resurrection.

  5. This gospel message is the power for our salvation and our continued sanctification (the process by which we become more like Christ) as expressed in Paul’s statement, “the just shall live by faith.” Central to Paul’s life, ministry and proclamation was the gospel; a message he found on the road to Damascus (Acts 9). Paul never outgrew the gospel and it’s power!

  7. Gospel-Centered Living Puts the Worldon Notice Romans 1:8 (NKJV) 8First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, that your faith is spoken of throughout the whole world. • The Roman’s faith was being spoken, literally preached, throughout the entire known world. The power of the gospel had taken root in the Roman believers and their transformed lives where preaching the gospel! • Is your faith being spoken of throughout your family, your neighborhood, your town, your world?

  8. Gospel-Centered Living Puts a Premium on MakingDisciples Romans 1:9–15 (NKJV) 9For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of His Son, that without ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers, 10 making request if, by some means, now at last I may find a way in the will of God to come to you. 11 For I long to see you, that I may impart to you some spiritual gift, so that you may be established— 12 that is, that I may be encouraged together with you by the mutual faith both of you and me.

  9. Gospel-Centered Living Puts its Hope in the Power of the Gospel • Romans 1:9 9For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of His Son… • Romans 1:16–17 16For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek. 17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.”
