Stratigraphy on glacier on 24 April 2013 GPS : N = 78˚48’48.5 E = 12˚53’29.6 Altitude = 349 meters a.s.l. Observations 2set of measurements with the FS, 3 looking up, 3 looking down, 3 looking up, clouds in front of sun, 14:08 and 14:12 local time Surface layer : is constituted of stellar crystals, wet snow. Density is around 200 kg.m-3, would estimate the optical radius between 50 and 100 µm. Second layer: 57to 50cm: small rounded grain of 0.3 mm, density is 287 kg.m-3 Third layer:50to 45 cm, facetted crystals of 0.5 mm size. Density of 298 kg.m-3 Fourth layer: 45 to 40 cm. Depth hoar crystals of 0.5 mm size and density of 301 kg.m-3. Fifth layer: 40 to 20 cm. Facetted crystals of 0.5 to 1 mm size and density of 396 kg.m-3, quite hard snow layer. 60 57 50 45 40 20 Tair@ + 150 cm : - 0.2°C T snow from top in degree C, see depth on stratigraphy for layers: 5 cm = -0.8°C 15 cm = -2.7°C 25 cm = -5.8°C 35 cm = -7.1°C 0 Glacier, ice, around 65 cm depth
