  3. Pilots 272 operating from 25 pilot stations • 15 pilot apprentices • There are 3 female pilots in Norway , one recruited in 2006 one in 2007, and one in 2009

  4. 44 708 pilotage operations in 2010 • 6% higher then 2009 • 97% of the bookings via SafeSeaNet • In average each pilot performed 164 pilotage missions in 2010

  5. Annual turnover in 2010: 84.000.000 € • 10,4% higher then 2009 • 2800 valid PECs, 66 less then in 2009 • Norway do not have any deep-sea pilotage service

  6. Pec’s

  7. Rocknes • The Norwegian State has been cleared of liability • The previous award of kroner 23 million (3 million euro) in compensation for incomplete sea charts has been overturned by Borgating district court.

  8. Rocknes • Blamed navigational errors in strong currents and poor visibility for the accident • The charts had no significance in the sinking. • The vessel had not been properly loaded and the cargo and ballast proportionswere not as they should have been to achieve the required stability • If the stability had been correct the vessel would have still grounded but not capsized

  9. New regulations • Vessel over 70m (20 m beam) • Vessel over 50 m carrying dangerous goods. • Passenger vessel over 24 m except local ferries and passenger vessels

  10. Pec’s • For ships up to 150 m • Can not be used when carrying some kinds of dangerous goods.

  11. To apply for a Pec • 1 year as navigator on the Norwegian cost, or • Taken part in a special training course (apprentice contract), or • Made 12 trips last 12 months, at least 6 each way, and two of them by night.

  12. Examination • One theoretical part • One practical part • Examination by a pilot. • acceptance by the coastal Administration after recommendation from the pilot.

  13. North Atlantic Information Management Centre • Opening the 9. of November in Haugesund • Monitoring and exchange information about vessels in the North Atlantic and the Barents sea. • EMSA have all ready established Equivalent centre for the North sea, Baltic, and Mediterranean.
