  1. Worlds beyond the Earth By Molly Knight-Smith

  2. Mercury • Mercury is the planet closest to the sun. It is heavily cratered from the amount of asteroid crashes on its rocky surface. Along with Venus ,Earth and Mars it is classed as a terrestrial planet (a rocky mass).

  3. Venus Venus is the second planet from the sun. It is a rocky mass surrounded by gas clouds. If any thing was to hit Venus the air pressure would instantly crush the object .

  4. Earth Earth is the third planet from the sun and probably the only one in the Milky Way with diverse life on it. It has water and land on it ,the perfect conditions for life forms.

  5. Mars Mars is the fourth Planet from the sun. It is the planet which is most likely to have micro-organisms living on it. Unlike the other planets apart from Earth, Mars possibly has water present, under the surface.

  6. Jupiter Jupiter is the 5th planet from the Sun. Along with Saturn, Uranus and Neptune, Jupiter is classed as a gas giant. With a mass 318 times that of Earth Jupiter is the largest planet in the solar system.

  7. Saturn Saturn is the sixth Planet from the sun. It is a ball of ice ,rock and gas. Saturn is very famous for its rings. These rings are made of ice and dust.

  8. Uranus Uranus is the seventh Planet from the sun. It is extremely cold and icy. It is the third biggest planet in the solar system even though it is relatively small compared to the giants ,Jupiter and Saturn.

  9. Neptune Neptune is the 8th and last planet from the sun. Neptune has taken this title from Pluto which is now classed as a dwarf planet .Neptune is very icy and cold , even more-so than Uranus.
