What Are Sedimentary Rocks Over time the layer of sand and mud at the bottom of lakes and oceans turned into rocks these are called sedimentary rocks
How are sedimentary rocks formed These little bits of our earth are washed downstream where they settle to the bottom of the rivers, lakes, and oceans. Layer after layer of earth is deposited on top of each. These layers are pressed down more and more through time, until the bottom layers slowly turn into rock.

Rocks also provide certain minerals that help make soap, toothpaste, and salt for our food. Rocks are also used in buildings to provide us with schools, hospitals, and shelter.
