  8. Let’s understand difference between ‘product’ and ‘display’. • A product is the information from which the display is created: • Gridded data to create NCWD • BUFR data to create NCWF 1 hour forecast polygons or CCFP • Created by a Weather Provider

  9. Let’s understand difference between ‘product’ and ‘display’. • Product and ‘hard copy’ used to be the same. No longer. • A display is a visualization of the digital product, and more… • A display turns digital products into color and line texture • A display can write disclaimers that are not in the digital product. • A display can show the alphanumeric information contained in an object, and choose where to place this label. • A display can create a single picture with TWO products (i.e., NCWD & NCWF, CIP Severity filtered by probability > 50%) • A display can animate digital products (NCWF-2, CIWS

Let’s understand difference between ‘product’ and ‘display’. • A display can integrate digital products with non-meteorological information. • A display can choose to show only information pertinent to the decision maker. • A display can turn high resolution data into categories (of the decision-maker’s choosing). • A display can allow users to interact and show areas and features the user wants from many products (Flight Path Tool) • Displays can add confidence statistics based on verifying past products. • Displays will be built by government and private entities (not necessarily the weather provider). ADDS is only the first of many new sophisticated displays to be developed.

Summary • Many products exist today because of the variety of uses for which they are designed. • Some day a single convective 4-D forecast will be the basis for many, many, displays and tools tailored to their use. • Process step by step as quality increases sufficiently.
