  3. What is Next Step? • Next Step is a survey of all Year 12 graduates • The survey asks young people what they are doing after they leave school • This could be studying, working or pursuing other interests

  4. Who takes part in Next Step? • All students from State, Catholic and Independent schools who complete Year 12 in 2011 will be invited to take part in the survey • 2012 survey will be the eighth year of the operation • In 2011, over 46,000 Year 12s from all schools were approached to complete the survey

  5. When will school leavers complete the Next Step survey? • You will be contacted between March and May 2012 • The collection of survey responses will occur over a number of weeks

  6. Why is completing the Next Step survey so important? • To help schools gather important information about the pathways of their students • To provide principals & teachers with feedback on the destinations of students • To help the Queensland Government improve services for future school leavers

  7. How will young people complete the survey? • By phone or online • Your parents or another adult can complete the survey on your behalf (if you are away from home) • Privacy of young people is protected. Survey responses are strictly confidential and protected by the Statistical Returns Act
