  1. Calypso Calypso, the goddess of silence, was an immortal sea nymph. She was eternally youthful. This goddess was also the queen of the Island of Ogyia. Calypso is most likely the daughter of Atlas and Tethys. Calypso was confined to the Island of Ogyia where she imprisoned the hero Odysseus. She promised him immortality if he would marry her, but he denied her. Although Odysseus did not wish to be with anyone but his wife, Penelope, Calypso kept him on the island for seven years. Some say that they had two children in this time, but no one is sure. Soon after this, the goddess Athena told Zeus about Calypso having kidnapped Odysseus. So he sent Hermes to order Calypso to set Odysseus free, and she did so very reluctantly. She even helped him build a ship to sail away in.
