  1. Movie Remakes Matt Meinnert

  2. Remakes • In today’s film industry, the older movies that our senior citizens grew up with are being remade. Classics are being made funnier, “up to date”, and scarier. Even though they are being redone, they still show how our film industry loves the talking picture era.

  3. Horror • Within the past six years many horror films have been remade. They include Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween, The Hills Have Eyes, The Last House on the Left, A Haunting in Connecticut, Cape Fear and The Exorcism of Emily Rose. The main difference in these movies are, besides the actors, they are scarier for today’s audience.

  4. Horror Continued • However, many of these older movies have had several sequels, like the one I will compare today.

  5. Original • Killer was mother • Only showed Jason at the end and was considered a fake entity. • Ending was long because of Carrie. • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oKgjjgLfkFg&feature=related

  6. Remake • Was actually a combination of the first 4 films. • Mother’s death was the beginning, the bag over the head was the second, third was finding the mask and machete, and fourth involved the search and rescue of a lost sister. • The brother actually finds her instead of dying like in the fourth movie. • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-VhXo4Nye5Q&feature=fvst • Jason was actually smart, using underground tunnels to kill his victims where as in the originals he was just superfast.

  7. Westerns • Westerns were popular during the 1940-60s. Several very popular actors were known for being in western films. These include John Wayne, Roy Rogers, Clint Eastwood, Neville Brand, and Dean Martin. Since these aren’t really popular today, not many remakes have been produced. However, there are a few. Two are 3:10 to Yuma and the newest one, True Grit.

  8. Original • The Sons of Katie Elder was a western about 4 brothers who came together after the death of their mother. • They are soon alienated and put on trial for the death of the sheriff, which they didn’t do. Solving this problem the western way, pull out the guns and shoot the person who framed you. • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eDfAZeAKxh0

  9. Remake • Obviously different time frame and location. Based in Detroit. • Four adopted brothers come together to find the person who killed their mother. • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nLbEGkjmTxg

  10. Comedy • Comedy is a very popular genre of film. Seems like it would be a hard concept to mimic. Yet, several wonderfully funny movies were remade. Some included films are Mr. Deeds, Major Payne, The Parent Trap, That Darn Cat, School for Scoundrels, Dinner for Schmucks and Brewster’s Millions.

  11. Original • The original was actually a random film filled with improve from children that never acted before. • Concept of a baseball team made of misfits who get a few ringers and end up getting second place in the little league tournament. • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vbeoMvZMxT4

  12. Remake https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cv83Pm_bF6c • Had several different types of kids. They had a paraplegic and Mexican Americans that learned English. • Kelly was more of a rebel and only looked out for him. • The opposing team was even more harsh with the bullying process.

  13. All kinds of films can be remade no matter the genre. Other common movies that were remade are Death Race, Walking Tall, 101 Dalmatians, Annie, Black Christmas, and The Day the Earth Stood Still.
