Group Formation • 16-year-old singer and guitarist, John Lennon, formed a skiffle group “The Quarrymen” with Liverpool school friends (1957) • 15-year-old Paul McCartney joined Lennon’s band as guitarist after meeting in July (1957) • McCartney invited 14-year-old George Harrison into the band as lead guitarist (1958)

  6. John Lennon • John Lennon was born on October 9, 1940. John Lennon got his first guitar when he was a teenager he also taught himself to play. When he was 13 he started his own band with George Harrison and Paul McCartney. Lennon’s band kept changing its name and the name, “The Beatles” stayed. He was assassinated in 1980.

  7. Paul McCartney • Paul was born on June 18, 1942. He learned how to play the piano and the guitar. He grew up in a traditional north of England working-class society, located in Liverpool.

  8. George Harrison • Born into a working-class family in Liverpool, in 1943 in George Harrison attended Dovedale Primary School, 3 years behind John Lennon. He met Paul McCartney during his schooling years and then joined The Beatles in 1958.

  9. Ringo Starr • Born in 1940 in Liverpool, England. His actual name is Richard Starkey. Ringo Starr is actually his stage name. Was the replacement for former drummer of The Beatles, Pete Best.

Breakdown of Songs: Hey Jude • Paul McCartney wrote this as "Hey Jules," a song meant to comfort John Lennon's 5-year-old son Julian as his parents were getting a divorce. • “Hey Jude, don't make it bad” - don't make the separation harder than it has to be. • “Remember to let her into your heart, then you can start to make it better"-accept Yoko, you may start to feel better. (Yoko was the second wife of John Lennon)
