  1. Stations October 21st- October 25th

  2. Project Overview The 2nd graders are helping the United Way campaign by raising awareness in our school community and in Columbus. This week, students will focus on citizenship and community leaders. Students will be learning about being leaders by encouraging others to participate in the campaign. Second graders will be taking a field trip to Salin Bank, City Hall and the Police Department to learn more about leaders in our community.

Skills and Standards 2.2.5- Retell with facts 2.1.6-Fluency and accuracy SS 2.2.2 – Recognize government 2.2.3- Identify community leaders Reading Connection Citizenship Materials Needed Social Studies book on Citizenship Noise Level 1 Monday Open the CITIZENSHIP book to page 1. Discuss How Government Works and read pages 1, 2, 3 Read Lesson 1 “We the People.” Tuesday Read Lesson 2: “Three Parts of Government.” Wednesday Field Trip to Salin Bank, City Hall and the Police Department Thursday Read Lesson 3: “Our Country’s Capital.” Friday Complete and Turn comprehension pages for Citizenship Project Connection United Way Campaign: Leadership Citizenship Government

  4. Standards 2.W.1 Write an opinion piece in which they introduce a topic, state an opinion, supply reasons to support opinion and provide a concluding statement. Writing “Making a Difference” Noise Level 1 • Monday and Tuesday: Continue working on your Letter to the Editor, Public Service Announcement or flyer for the United Way campaign. Make sure to use complete sentences, capital letters and your best spelling. Begin typing the final draft on your chrome book after you have edited your work. • Wednesday: Field Trip • Thursday: Continue working on your final draft of your writing. • Friday: Complete your flyer, Letter to the Editor and Public Service Announcement. Be ready to share it with the class. We will be choosing the best writing to share on the radio and the newspaper. Flyers will be hung around our school encouraging everyone to participate in the United Way campaign. Self-Selected Reading / Accelerated Reader Standards RF2.4 Read with sufficient accuracy and fluency to support comprehension Noise Level 0 • Choose a library book or a book of choice that you have not read. • Be sure you picked a book that you can read alone. • Silently read. • After you finish your book, write the name of the book and information on the SSR/AR form to turn in for a grade. • When you finish the sheet, turn it in to the Turn in File. • Materials Needed • SSR/ AR form • Book of choice Home

RF2.3.a Distinguish long and short vowels when reading regularly spelled one-syllable words Noise Level 1 Monday: Start the spelling packet. Tuesday: Finish the spelling packet and turn in to the turn in file. Wednesday- Choose an activity using your words: 1. Crayon Mats 2. Flip Book 3. Story Thursday: Spelling City- go to the website to practice your words for the test on Friday. You may only go to the challenge list if you have mastered the regular list.
