  8. Taxonomy - the scientific study of how things are classified.

  9. Aristotle • Developed the 1st classification system • Animals grouped based on movement – those that could fly, swim & those that walk, crawl or run • Then divided those into subgroups based off of similarities

  10. Aristotle • Still use his idea of classification & subgroups today but we do not group based off of movement

  11. Carolus Linnaeus Used observations as the basis of his classification system Places organisms in groups based on their observable features

  12. Carolus Linnaeus Developed BIONOMIAL NOMENCLATURE, which we still use today. Canis lupus

  13. Bionomial Nomenclature All organisms are given an unique 2 part name (called scientific name) based on shared traits. Canis lupus
