  3. What is a Plant? • Eukaryotic cells • Multicellular organisms • Cell walls of cellulose • Provides stability and strength • Photoautotrophs • Photosynthesis with chlorophyll a & b “Stationary animals that eat sunlight”

  4. Survival Needs • Sunlight • Needed for photosynthesis CO2 + H2O  C6H12O6 + O2 • Water and Minerals • Water is needed for photosynthesis • Minerals are for growth

  5. Survival Needs • Gas Exchange • CO2 • IN for photosynthesis • Comes mainly from animals • O2 • OUT for animal respiration • IN for plant respiration

  6. Survival Needs • Movement of Water & Nutrients • Nutrients = food • Small molecules  • Passively by diffusion/osmosis • Large molecules  • Actively by special tissues
