  3. Challenges -Note Taking • You should pace yourself with the lecturer • The notes must include all the main ideas and major points • The notes may use for different reasons

  4. Our aims • At the end of this lecture you should be able to: • Organize your notes • Identify important information • Take notes quickly

  5. How to Organize your notes • Anticipate the purpose • Divide the paper into columns • Separate the major and minor points

  6. Anticipate the purpose Purpose Question What is it? What are the characteristics? Which group does it belong to? What is the order? 1st, 2nd, … How is it the same or different from sth else? How does it cause sth? What happens? Why is it a problem? What is the solution Why should it be supported or rejected? • Definition • Description and Example • Classification • Sequence • Comparison and Contrast • Cause and Effect • Problem and Solution • Persuasion and Evaluation
