  1. Individual concepts Initial song ideas Under 10,000 streams

  2. ‘Rose Gold’ Rose Gold by Elle Exxe On spotify Elle Exxe has 7,072 streams. 547 views on Youtube and hasn’t got any more attention recently. The acoustic cover has 15 views on Youtube. This song presents a strong female lead. When listening to this song immediately, you can identify an 80s vibe. I chose this song because I felt I’d be able to push an identity onto the song and create a marketable artist.

  4. ‘A Pretty Good Beach Bop’ ‘A Pretty Good Beach Bop’ Chek On soundcloud the song was released 3 years ago and has 4,147 views. On youtube has 1,000 views. Immediately, listening to the song I imagined a scene with a teenage son in his messy 90s bedroom with his parents arguing in the background. With their speech muted. Further along in the song, I can imagine the lead singer spotting a pretty girl in the neighbours house window. The end of the music video would show them playing around his room alongside the whole band.

  6. PITCHING OUR INITIAL IDEAS TO THE CLASS What did I do- Individually we presented our concepts to the class, Stuart and our supervisor Matt, as well as our initial thoughts of creating artist personalities and the visuals to our music video ideas. This was the first time we properly presented our summer work to our group, giving us all an idea of what style/ concepts we like individually. I showed by powerpoint, played the intro to the chosen song and then a chorus (to show if the song had an interesting hock or built) and then gave the numerical statistics. I found presenting to the whole class, Stuart and Matt helpful to gain experienced and fresh eared/eyed perspectives on our beginning concepts.

  7. I learnt that as a group we liked the idea of creating a boy band personality (specifically surrounding the 90s) and a female solo artist personality. All of our song choices were part of either category. This was helpful in bonding as a group to start to decide what we would like to produce. What did I learn- In response to my first song ‘Rose Gold’- Matt and Stuart said it reminded them of the 80s. In addition, Matt suggested as the 90s and 2000s are coming into fashion, maybe the 80s could make a come back, so I should keep a close eye on the numbers. He said we would be able to apply a strong female solo artist personality to the song and therefore we could create a marketable character. However, Matt kept mentioning that solo artists are more difficult to film compared to bands. In response to my second song, I had a vivid music video idea stemmed to the ‘vibe’, but it wasn’t the right idea to suit the visuals. Matt also said, don’t start thinking/ getting a set idea of what you want in the music video, but start by thinking can you apply an artists personality and can it be marketed.

  8. What are you next steps going to be? After speaking to my group, we are all leaning towards a cheeky boy band group personality with a 90s vibe. I want to go away and find more indie/ rock band songs with under 10,000 streams. I am looking for a song that has something interesting, a fast tempo chorus/ interesting speech at the beginning of the song. To look, I have taken inspiration from hearing where people in my class have found their initial song ideas from and will look on those specific websites including soundcloud. I have found a 1975 music video that I would like to take inspiration from. ‘Me and You together’.
