  1. Software Kyle Watson

  2. Allows a single user to control one computer Allows multiple computers to be connected across a network Difference Between Operating Systems and Network Operating Systems OS Vs NOS

  3. What is a Network Operating System? • Coordinates the activities of multiple computers on a network • Acts as a director to keep the network running smoothly • Two Types of NOS’s: Peer-To-Peer and Client/Server

  4. Peer-To-Peer • Share files and resources located on each computer in the network • Each user has access to shared files from each computer on the network • All computers are equal

  5. No need for server-cheaper OS only needs to be reconfigured for peer-to-peer connection Decentralized Less Security Peer-To-Peer Advantages Disadvantages

  6. Client/Server • All shareable resources are on one file server • All other computers on the network can connect and use resources on the server • File Server is the heart of the network

  7. Centralized Scalability Flexibility Interoperability Accessibility Expensive Maintenance Dependence Client/Server Advantages Disadvantages
