Or one month? • Did you know that only 5% of the people in the United States will reach financial security by retirement? • What are the purposes, benefits, and payoffs of good goal-setting? • Personal responsibility…. Who is responsible for your future? • Are you willing to write down where you’re going or be willing to settle for whatever you get out of life?

  4. The Yale study • The Yale class of 1953 • 35 year study • Ages 19 to 65 • Researched habits of those with written goals, and those without • The results.. 8% set goals, 3% used written goals • 3% had 95% of the wealth • 97% had 5% of the wealth • Which will you be?

  6. SMART Goals • Specific • Measurable • Aligned • Rewarding • Timely • Each and every goal must be written and incorporate the above or is not a true goal

  7. Goal flexibility • Balance short and long-term purposes • Change direction/revise goals • Keep on track • Alert when off-track • Reward work well done • Create new goals--mission/purpose/passion plans • Be open to New Possibilities

For reasons goals/plans fail • No Budget...money/time/resources allotted for goal-setting • No Incentives… 75% do not link incentives to goal achievement • No Communication… 86% spent less than one hour per month talking about goals • No Sharing… 95% do not share their plans with others who play a role in their success or achievement • No buy-in… no real commitment
