  2. Autocratic or Authoritative: • Leader identifies the problem • Considers the solutions • Chooses one • Tells others what to do

  3. Autocratic or Authoritative: • Leader may or may not consider others’ opinions • Group members DO NOT participate directly in the decision making process

  4. Autocratic or Authoritative: • May be valuable in some types of business where decisions need to be made quickly and decisively

  5. Democratic or Participative: • Leader includes group members from the beginning

  6. Democratic or Participative: • Problems and background information is presented • Then members are asked for ideas

  7. Democratic or Participative: • Leader than selects what he/she considers the best idea or solution

  8. Laissez-Faire: • Leader participates as “just another member” • This leaders agrees that whatever the group decides will be carried out • Leader is “hands off”, but group centered

  9. Paternalistic or Evaluative: • Leader identifies the problem and a tentative solution • Before finalizing the solution, the leader runs it by the group

  10. Paternalistic or Evaluative: • Leader listens to the group, BUT he/she makes the final decision

  11. Political • Leader makes decisions without consulting the group

  12. Political • Rather than announcing his/her decision, this leader tries to persuade group members to accept the decision • Leaders shares his/her decision making process and how it will benefit the group (or individuals in the group)

Leadership Style Skits Students get in groups Each group will draw a leadership style (DO NOT share these with other groups) Groups must create a skit to demonstrate the leadership style to the class Be prepared to perform your skit The other groups will have to guess which style your group is demonstrating
