  1. Year 4’s trip to Westminster Abbey

  2. After a train journey and a walk we finally arrived at Westminster Abbey. The children, and adults were glad to have beaten the weather so far…

  3. The children waited patiently outside the Abbey before they ventured into the cloisters just inside.

  4. Once inside sadly we couldn’t take any photos however thanks to the joys of the internet here’s what we saw whilst inside.

  5. Then the children saw the tomb of the unknown warrior, an unnamed soldier who fell in France and was bought to rest in the Abbey in 1920, still encased in the French soil he was buried in to represent all who fell in the great war.

  6. After lunch the children went back into the Abbey to have a talk with Rev David Railton, a world war 1 chaplain whose idea it was to bring the unknown warrior to the Abbey.

  7. Lastly the children went into a classroom at the Abbey and used the items in a bag to pen a poem about the great war.
