  2. Filmmaking I • Is made up of 10th – 12th grade students • Is a series of hands-on learning experiences • Is dependent on student interaction • Is self-paced • Is taught • In the classroom • Online • Out in the world

  3. Filmmaking I – Unit 1 In this unit students will learn how to: • Communicate with the instructor and each other • Get the right shot using framing and angle techniques • Edit their films with Adobe Premier • Enhance their films with music and sound effects • Publish their work to the Web

  4. Lesson 1 – Communication Variability of projects and tight work deadlines make strong communication a must.

  5. Lesson 1 – Communication Edmodo keeps us organized and helps maintain the flow of information in our class.

  6. Lesson 1 – Communication Edmodo : • Acts as a clearing house for tutorials, assignments, links to examples and calendars • Provides group forums for shooting schedules, script revision, and other organizational duties within each group • Provides a gallery for completed videos where students and instructors can comment on projects, and ask for help

  7. Lesson 2 – Getting the Shot There are many tried and true shot techniques that must be mastered by young filmmakers. Often these techniques are forgotten on location.

  8. Lesson 2 – Getting the Shot Prezi presentations outline the various shots and techniques the students will be using.

  9. Lesson 2 – Getting the Shot Prezi : • The motion capabilities of Prezi make it an excellent choice for showing film shots and angles • They can be shown in class during the lesson • They can be linked on Edmodo for access any time, any place, (even on location)

  10. The most important and difficult to master tool used in Filmmaking is actually not the camera…

  12. Lesson 3 – Edit Like A Pro When each student is creating a completely different project using completely different techniques, you need a battery of lessons and tutorials at your disposal.

  13. Lesson 3 – Edit Like A Pro Jing is the perfect tool for making Adobe Premier tutorials that students can use as needed. No matter what technique they are trying to master.

  14. Lesson 3 – Edit Like A Pro Jing : • Can be used as part of an introductory lesson • Can be viewed later by individual students who need review • Can be viewed outside of class time • Can provide individualized instruction when every student is trying to accomplish a different goal with their editing • Can prevent the instructor from having to repeat instructions

  15. Lesson 4 –Sounds Good The right sound can make a good film great. Audio elements can change the mood and even the meaning of a film.

  16. Lesson 4 –Sounds Good Students will use Soundation to create music beds and sound effects for their films.

Lesson 4 –Sounds Good Soundation : • Has a huge selection of built in sound elements • Allows students to record and upload their own sounds • Has a user friendly interface which cuts down on instruction time • Edits tempo and pitch in real time so you can set just the right mood • Can be played in a browser while watching your video in another window

  18. Lesson 5 – Show and Tell A film without an audience is incomplete.

  19. Lesson 5 – Show and Tell YouTube connects our films with their audience.

Lesson 5 – Show and Tell YouTube : • Provides a gallery for displaying student work • Allows for filmmakers to tag and describe their vision and techniques • Allows for comments and questions from peers and instructors • Has editing functionality for last minute fixes and changes • Can be viewed from anywhere • Can be linked on the class Edmodo page
