Logistics • 2013 School proposed to be hosted in West Lafayette on Purdue campus • Organized by Center for the Science of Information (http://soihub.org ) • Dates: June 4-7, 2013 • Applications due: March 15th 2013 • Decisions: March 22nd 2013 • Registration by April 15th 2013 • Website: http://www.itsoc.org/school2013

Format in 2013 • Theme: Towards integrating time, space, structure, and semantics in the flow of information. • 2 days Core IT • 2 days Interdisciplinary topics that bridge information theory with biology, knowledge extraction, and quantum information theory • Diversity workshop • Padovani Lecturer: TBDOther Speakers: TBD • Ask that School be registered with IEEE as a conference • Purdue Dorms • Dorms will act like hotel registration: • Students register with dorm and provide credit card backup. • If no show (15-day cancellation), student is fined. • Students post-billed once checkout.

Fundraising • In previous years: • 2008: $39k (ITSOC, DARPA, Univ.; 101 students) • 2009: $58K (ITSOC, DARPA/ARO, NSF, Univ.; 141 students) • 2010: $61K (ITSOC, DARPA/ARO, NSF, Univ.; 178 students) • 2011: $62K (ITSOC, NSF, Univ., CSoI, ARO/ARL: 180 students) • 2012: $44K (ITSOC, NSF, Univ., CSoI, IBM, Cornell, ARO/ARL; 111 students) • Estimate the school budget for 2013 will be $65K • Will approach NSF & ARO/ARL as in past years , IBM, etc– assistance appreciated

  7. Request for Funds • We respectfully ask for $25K from the ITSOC • Motion: that the ITSOC support the 2013 School of Information Theory with a grant of $25k
