  2. Perm Rod & Measuring • Use a long perm rod • Examine the rod • Use the dots and lines as a guide • You will part the hair in between the dots & lines Cosmetology I - Permanent Wave Sectioning

  3. Using the Mirror • The mirror shows all • Use the mirror to assist you • Learn to look in the mirror • Do not depend on your eyes only Cosmetology I - Permanent Wave Sectioning

  4. Centering the Sections • Use the rod as a guide • Center the rod above the nose • Use the mirror to check for accuracy Cosmetology I - Permanent Wave Sectioning

  5. Bang Parting • Use the lines/ dots as a guide • Lay rat-tail comb underneath rod • Part straight back • Check the mirror for accuracy Cosmetology I - Permanent Wave Sectioning

  6. 2nd Bang Parting • Line the rod up with 1st parting • Slide comb underneath rod for 2nd parting • Check mirror for accuracy • Section straight back Cosmetology I - Permanent Wave Sectioning

  7. Section to Nape • Continue 1st & 2nd partings to nape • Check the mirror for accuracy • Check nape hairline for accuracy • Is the section centered? Cosmetology I - Permanent Wave Sectioning

  8. Occipital Parting • Make a horizontal part across the 1st section • Use the occipital bone as a guideline • Parting should be straight, not curved Cosmetology I - Permanent Wave Sectioning

  9. Sectioning the Front Sides • Lay the rod in 1st parting against the hairline • Use lines/ dots as a guide • Section diagonally to behind the ear Cosmetology I - Permanent Wave Sectioning

  10. Sectioning the Front Sides • Repeat steps on the opposite side • Check both sides for balance Cosmetology I - Permanent Wave Sectioning

  11. Sectioning the Middle Back Sections • Use the rod to measure horizontally • Measure across the widest part of the section • Make sure the rod will fit between the partings • Part horizontally to match nape section Cosmetology I - Permanent Wave Sectioning

  12. Middle Back Sectioning • Repeat steps on opposite side • Make sure to measure with the rod • Measure across the widest part of the section • Measure the rod horizontally Cosmetology I - Permanent Wave Sectioning

  13. Nape Sections • Check nape/ occipital partings • All partings should match up • No horseshoe partings allowed • All should be horizontal Cosmetology I - Permanent Wave Sectioning

  14. Parting the Bang Section • Section horizontally • Section from front side across to opposite front side section • These partings should match • No diagonal partings Cosmetology I - Permanent Wave Sectioning

  15. Final Measurements • Use long rod to measure • Measure middle back sections across widest part • Measure center section horizontally in several places Cosmetology I - Permanent Wave Sectioning

  16. Final Measurements • Measure front sides at top & bottom • Measure bang section horizontally • Measure nape sections • Center nape section should hold a long rod • Side nape sections should hold short rods Cosmetology I - Permanent Wave Sectioning
