  6. 21st Century High-Tech Communication Skills Why do students need 21st century skills? (excerpt from “Partnership for 21st Century Skills) Every child in America needs to be ready for today’s and tomorrow’s world. A profound gap exists between the knowledge and skills most students learn in school and the knowledge and skills they need for success in their communities and workplaces. To successfully face rigorous higher education coursework, career challenges and a globally competitive workforce, U.S. schools must align classroom environments with real world environments by fusing the three Rs and four Cs (Critical Thinking, Creativity, Collaboration, and Communication).

Project Management and Team Leadership Expertise…in order to: • Build and sustain high-performing project teams through enhanced leadership skills • Develop a strong team identity and empower others to act through vision and purpose • Foster positive and productive team communication and effectively manage conflict

STEM Research Skills such as: • Analytical skills to research a topic, develop a project plan and timeline, and draw conclusions from research results • Science skills to break down a complex scientific system into smaller parts, recognize cause and effect relationships, and defend opinions using facts • Mathematic skills for calculations and measurements • Attention to detail to follow a standard blueprint, record data accurately, or write instructions • Technical skills to troubleshoot the source of a problem, repair a machine or debug an operating system, and computer capabilities to stay current on appropriate software and equipment
