  2. 1. Tropical Wet Climate Region • Where? -This zone occupies a small area along the equator. -It covers only 8% of Africa -It extends from the country of Guinea in the west to the Great Rift Valley in the east.

  3. Climate -Hot and humid all year round -Average temp. of 80 degrees throughout the year. -60 to 120 inches of rain per year

  4. 2. Tropical Wet and Dry • Where? -This would be the savanna or grassland area of Africa. -Covers almost half the continent -Home to most Africans

  5. Climate -In the summer the climate is hot and wet. -In the winter the climate is warm and dry. -Desertification has posed a problem to this area. Overgrazing has turned the grasslands into desert.

  6. 3. Desert • Where? -Cover about 40% of Africa. -The Sahara is the most famous desert in Africa • Climate -Temperatures can reach as high as 130 degrees. -Several years could pass by without rain.

  7. 4. Mediterranean Climate • Where? -This climate can be found at the southern tip and along the northern coast of Africa. • Climate -Summers are hot and dry. Winters are cool and moist. -The climate supports many types of crops and herding. - European settlers were attracted to these areas of Africa.
