There is more than one kind of fat.

Saturated Fat

Saturated fat is an unhealthy fat that is naturally found in foods
from animals such as fatty cuts of meat, poultry with the skin on and higher fat milk, cheese and yogurt. Saturated fat is also
found in tropical oils, including coconut and palm kernel oils.

May cause clogging of arteries (atherosclerosis), heart disease, stroke, obesity

Unsaturated Fats

Are healthy fats that include Omega 3 fatty acids & Omega 6 fatty acids.

Omega-3 fats are found in fatty fish such as salmon, mackerel, trout, herring and sardines. They are also found in oils and some soft margarines.

Omega 6 are found in nuts and seeds.

Helps with the development of the nervous system, improves circulation

Hydrogenated Trans Fats

Trans fat is an unhealthy fat. It is made out of liquid oil that is then
changed into a solid fat. Trans fat adds texture and flavor to food.
It is most often found in commercially baked goods, fried foods
and processed foods like packaged salty snacks and convenience
foods including frozen foods.

Avoid lead to heart disease

- helps stabilize all animal cell membranes

 - used by the body to synthesize steriod hormones such as

sex hormones (testosterone, estrogen) and hormones of

the adrenal cortex, Vit. D synthesis (assists with bone

development), and synthesis of bile (produced by liver,

breakdown of lipids)

How To Test For Fats

Copy

Two Tests

1) Sudan IV

if fat is present it turns solution from pink to red

2) Translucence lipid test

if light is transmitted through the brown paper, fat is present
