  2. Local Scholarships • The application form and some supplemental applications (check back frequently as applications become available they will be posted) will be available on the Voorhees High School guidance website at: • http://www.nhvweb.net/VHS/Guidance/ on December 2, 2011

  3. Specific Requirements • Scholarship application requirements vary: • Some will need supplements. • Some will need essays. - Some will need copies of various documents, i.e. FAFSA, discharge papers from the military. • Deadlines for these additions will vary; all deadlines will be on the website for each scholarship

  4. Which Scholarship? • Students MUST indicate on the application form the scholarships for which they are applying. • The original application is used as the master application. • Students need to make copies of cover sheet and application required for each scholarship • Section C scholarships will have links for additional applications and where/when to submit them. • Each of these requirements will have its own deadline.

  5. Application Due Date • Friday February 2, 2012, at 3:00 PM. • This is the FINAL DAY for On-Time applications. • Incomplete applications will not be considered

  6. Late Acceptance • Late applications will be accepted after 3:30 PM on February 6th. • These applications will be placed in a separate file. • Consideration will be given ONLY in the event that none of the other applicants fill the criteria.

  7. Notification • Awards will officially be announced at Senior Awards Night early in June.

  8. Helpful Hints • Refer to essays and resumes written for college applications. • Start the essays early. • Prepare all materials in a neat, professional manner.

  9. Follow Directions • It is MOST important to follow all directions exactly as stated. • Any deviation will result in a delay in processing of application. • In some cases, a deviation may result in rejection.

  10. OF UTMOST IMPORTANCE . . . • Section A requires the local scholarship cover sheet and application only and sometimes a list of activities if the award is based on community service.

  11. OF UTMOST IMPORTANCE… • Section B requires the local scholarship cover sheet, application AND any combination of the following: transcript, essays, recommendations, list of activities, copy of the FAFSA, etc. PLEASE READ EACH DESCRIPTION CAREFULLY. Each packet for each scholarship should be labeled with the name of the scholarship. ALL PARTS MUST BE SUBMITTED BY FEBRUARY 2nd!

  12. OF UTMOST IMPORTANCE… • Section C requires the local scholarship, cover sheet, application and supplements that will be available on our website. These supplements will have a separate link on the website. The deadline for the return of those supplements will be indicated on the supplements or website as well as the address to where everything should be sent or if the packet needs to go to Ms. Fresoli by February 2nd.

  13. Transcript Request • Complete transcript request form which is included with scholarship application when needed for a particular scholarship. • Submit this completed form along with application. • Student is required to pick-up transcripts for applications that they mail

College & University Scholarships • Merit based scholarships through admissions vs. other scholarships (criteria of eligibility ranges) • Deadlines - Fall through Spring • Seniors: Financial Aid links & Admissions links ASAP to all schools seeking to apply to • Do they offer additional scholarships? • What are those deadlines & how to apply? (supplemental documents to admissions vs. separate application) • Do those deadlines require you to submit by the admissions deadline? • Do you have to submit your application for admissions in advance with the scholarship materials to meet the scholarship deadline?

Other Scholarships & Programs Scholarships through organizations and institutions: criteria of eligibility (based upon academics, extra-curricular activities, community service experiences, leadership experience, majors, special interests & affiliations, etc…) • Deadlines throughout the entire school year & beyond Programs and opportunities: college/university workshops, day camps, overnight visits, weekend visits, open houses, major open houses, instant decision days, pre-college programs, special career events, career opportunities events • Deadlines throughout the entire school year & beyond

Meeting Scholarship Deadlines • Complete scholarships a minimum of 2 weeks in advance of the final deadline and mail them. • Recommendation: mail out a minimum of 1 week before the final deadline or sooner. Reviewing application materials: please let me know a minimum of two weeks before the final deadline • Plan ahead once you know a deadline! • This is important especially if you need references, to write essays, request transcripts, and mail out a scholarship packet vs. electronic submission. • GOAL: Prioritize yourself: to get these items organized for the deadline

Scholarship Opportunities link on G&T site • Scholarships with no designated deadlines are listed first in alphabetical order (college/university specific) • Additional scholarships organized by most current deadlines (college/university specific & all others) • Go to the bottom of the page: you must click on “Additional Scholarships Organized by Most Current Deadlines” to see scholarships • The following page is scholarships with deadlines in November • 2 Separate links are listed at the bottom for deadlines in December and deadlines in January & beyond “Current Programs & Opportunities” link organized the same way
