  1. 56th VFW Open Falcon 4.5 Tech Support: BSOD

  2. Black Screen Of Death Background: On BMS/OF installs of all flavors a small percentage of users experienced a hang up when trying to exit missions, UI’s ect. To solve this problem a fix was developed that could be switched between by “toggling” a 0 or 1 value in a command string. This command sting is as follows set g_bDeferedTextureDelete 0. Where the 0 is at the end is where you “toggle” between 0 or 1. This commnad line can be set using either of two ways. One is to add the sting to your 4.5 short cuts file path, just like the –ip command line we use. The other method is to open and edit the FalconBMS.cfg in your 4.5 install folder. The second method is the prefered one. The slides following take you through step by step instructions on how to accomplish “toggling” set g_bDeferedTextureDeleteon and off so to speak.

  3. Browse to your 56th OF 4.5 install folder. Look for the file named FalconBMS.cfg

  4. Double click on FalconBMS.cfg, and you’ll probably get this message box. Check the “Select the program from a list” Option and click OK.

  5. From the list of programs find and highlight Notepad (wordpad will also work), if you like clear or check at your discretion the “Always use the selected program…” option. If you do check it, please double check to make sure you have notepad selected. Now click OK.

  6. Once the file is open scroll all the way down to the end of the document and you’ll see the set g_bDeferedTextureDelete command line. There will either be a 0 or a 1 at the end. Do NOT change the spacing between the number listed and the rest of the string. Just delete the number that’s there and change to the other number. For example here 0 is listed, you’d change that to 1 to fix your BSOD issue.

  7. You’re all done an can close out of the file. DO NOT select “save as” or “Save” before exiting! Simply go to the File option and then select exit.

  8. You’ll see the above message box. Select yes, and go try your “fix” out.

  9. If you have any questions or further issues please contact myself or any other 56th member. If we don’t know the answer to your problem off hand we’ll find someone who does. My contact info is as follows: Thumpper E-Mail: freycat@yahoo.com ICQ: 56609485
