Applying to College – the Basics! • Last year more than 160,000 students applied to College in Ontario! • Ontario College Application Service www.ontariocolleges.ca • Program Choices – 5 in total (no more than 3 from any one college). • You need to order your choices. This won’t determine your acceptance, but it is used for research purposes.

  3. Things you need to HAVE OEN # (found on your credit counselling summary & timetable, or ask your guidance counsellor) Full address, phone number and email Social Insurance Number Method of Payment (Visa, Mastercard, Amex, cheque) Your 5 choices – remember a choice is college + program

  4. Application Fees The fee for the application is $95. • The application fee covers the application processing costs, as well as any college or program changes made to the original application. • There are NO exemptions from the application fee. • There is a $25 fee for returned items.  • This fee applies to all items returned to us for any reason including NSF, a closed account, stopped payment, post-dated

  5. Supplementary Applications • Lots of programs require additional components to the application. These might include a portfolio, interview, testing or audition. For example, George Brown’s Fashion Techniques Course requires a sewing test on an industrial machine • Collaborative Degrees are programs that are divided between a college and university. Each institution will require you to apply to either OCAS or OUAC.

  6. Testing – Pre-Admissions Some schools require testing to ensure that students have the required skills to be successful in their program of choice. Other programs that are “highly competitive” will require testing as a way of "ranking" and may be used to make admission decisions There is a fee for most pre-admissions testing and depends on the school.

  8. After you apply Print your Application Verification Summary and keep it on file. Make sure to keep your email containing your username and password. You will need this to login to your account. February 1st, 2013 – Application deadline & earliest release of offers by the colleges to all applicants May 1st, 2013 – applicants must confirm their acceptance of their offer by this date. June 17th, 2013 – earliest date that applicants will be required to pay tuition fees
