  2. Bloody Chicago weekend…. • http://cbs2chicago.com/video • This week more than 40 people were shot and at least 4 killed. • One alderman wants the city to revive a scrapped program that uses gunshot-location technology as a crime-fighting tool.

  3. S.N.C.C. (“Snick”) • SNCC = Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee. Black & white, male & female, not always students • Organized sit-ins, freedom rides, voting projects, etc.

  4. Fannie Lou Hamer • From very poor Mississippi roots, youngest of 20 children • Uneducated, but joined SNCC, faced arrest & severe police beating. • Campaigned tirelessly for voter registration & gave televised 1964 speech to support “MFDP”

  5. Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party • The MFDP was set up in 1964 to get civil rights workers on state Democratic delegation • MFDP delegation was fed up with MS violence and voter discrimination. • In the end, 2 MFDP members were seated on delegation, but rest were not. This made many members angry at white liberals.
