  2. Li Jun- creator of the W32.Fujacks virus aka the Panda Burns Incense computer worm From Wuhan, China 27 years old Served 3 years in prison for hacking in 2006 and 2007 Now, wants to conduct legitimate business

  3. Lei Lei • Li Jun’s accomplice and childhood friend • Taught Li Jun about hacking • Also served a year in prison for the same hacking job as Li Jun

  4. The Hacking • In 1999, the U.S. bombed the Chinese embassy in Belgrade • The attack angered the young Li and Lei • Thus, they started hacking U.S. websites and developing new ways to hack • Eventually they started going after money and were tracked down by the Chinese government.

  5. Cyber/ Hacking Lingo • White Hat- reformed hacker, trying to work in hacking prevention • Heike- Chinese name for hacker • Script Kiddies- a novice hacker • Zombie Slaves/Chickens- manipulating multiple computers in a network to hack into websites

  6. Google’s Current Issues • In a recent cyberattack called Aurora, Google and over 20 other firms were attacked on the employee level • Attack was traced to China and is thought of as more advanced than the Panda virus • There is no evidence to suggest that the two attacks are related

  7. U.S and Chinese Problems • Both the U.S. and China have severe hacking problems • Especially in China, hackers take advantage of lax government enforcement • Chinese hackers use a unique chain hacking business to build and alter viruses

  8. The Process • Someone writes an original virus code and either sells it or passes it to an accomplice. • The accomplice adds more functions like the ability to shut down a computer, freeze it, steal info, cover up its tracks etc. • The virus can be passed around to many cyber-criminals like an assembly line called crowd sourcing
