  2. Break it down…. • Inspired by Cezanne, but founded and lead by Picasso and Braque … “nothing but little cubes” . Started with Picasso’s “Les Desmoiselled’Avignon” • Subject varied, but color palette was limited to neutrals. ( Though Picasso broke a part and create his signature style that contained many colors) • ANALYTICAL  analyzing form of objects by shattering them into fragments spread out on the canvas • SYNTHETIC  reassemble the structure– formed new art of collage ( so Matisse wasn’t the first to do it!)

Picasso • Learned to draw before he could walk- he was first an Academia artist. • “ It took me four years to paint like Raphael, but a lifetime to draw like a child” • Different periods of his life influenced his art, until he changed art history with one painting ( the same painting the start of Cubism) • “I paint what I know, not what I see”– inspired by Cezanne geometric patterns ( mountain side landscapes)

  13. Supporting Role- Fernand Leger • Followed style of Cubism in terms of breaking shapes down and apart, but his color palette was bright and objects more recognizable. “The City” 1919
