  2. What is the SSP Core? • Survey methodology, • Statistics, and • Psychometrics • Promote social and behavioral science research at the University of Nebraska by helping researchers connect with needed grant preparation, design, data collection and analysis support

  3. SSP Background • Support is transitioning from the Nebraska Research Initiative (2005-2009) to the Office of Research • Advisory Board Representation • Educational Psychology (NEAR Center) • Psychology • Sociology • Statistics • Survey Research and Methodology (SRAM) • Bureau of Sociological Research (BOSR)

  4. How does the SSP work? • Primary Role - Research Facilitator • Services are provided through a combination of • In-House Consultation • Referrals to NEAR, BOSR, Statistics, SRAM, Proposal Development, & several other UNL Units • Contact Mindy Anderson-Knott to start • Identify needs and consult/refer as needed

  5. SSP Support Services • Grant Development • Research Design • Statistical Analysis • Education/Outreach Design • Evaluation Design • Facilitating Collaborative Research • Identify potential collaborators

  6. SSP Support Services • Data Collection • Help develop data collection tools and collect quantitative and qualitative data (Surveys - Phone, Web, Mail, Personal Interviews, Focus Groups, etc.) • Data Reporting/Statistical Analysis • Help interpret data • Report writing

  7. SSP Support Services • Qualitative and Quantitative Software Access • Remote access • Education on methodological and statistical topics through website, workshops and presentations http://ssp.unl.edu/

NSF CAREER Proposals • Educational/Outreach Plan • Consultant on plan and offer new ideas • Evaluation • Proposal Stage: • Design formative & summative evaluation plan • Provide a budget estimate for evaluation, letters of support • Post Award Stage: • Carry out evaluation (Collect data, write reports, etc.)

  9. Other Grants • Support many funding mechanisms • US Department of Education • NIH (R21, R03, R01, K01, P20, etc.) • Other NSF grants (CCLI, IGERT, etc.) • US Agency for International Development • Foundations (Spencer, etc.) • Internal seed grants

  10. Why use the SSP Core? • Focus on your specialty area, and “outsource” the rest • Use the experts instead of reinventing the wheel – can strengthen proposal • Advantage to utilizing someone outside of the project for evaluation
