  1. WHO IS MORE LIKELY TO BE ELECTED AS A SONG DIRECTOR, DAY OR BOARDER STUDENTS, OR BOYS OR GIRLS? KULA COMPANION

  2. Project Summary • I wanted to find out if being a border or day student would affect the outcome of the votes. • While working on this project I found out that students might not take the survey seriously and they might not answer truthfully. This issue might of affected the tally. • My Hypothesis: There will be no difference between a day student, a boarder student, a boy, and/or a girl upon voting for a song leader.

  3. How old are you? • 12 or under • 13 to 15 • 16 to 18 • Over 18

  4. How old are you? More students between the ages of 14 to 18 did this survey due to the fact that we are indeed high school students.

  5. Are you a: • Day student • Boarder student

  6. Are you a: I surveyed more day students then boarder students, which presents a tally issue. But the responses from boarders and day students were still almost even.

  7. Do you look up to your song director? • Yes • No • Maybe • Don’t Know

  8. Do you look up to your song director? More girls looked up to their song contest leaders then their male counterparts. *BLUE IS YES.

  9. Do you want you song director to be fluent in Hawaiian? • Yes • No

  10. Do you want you song director to be fluent in Hawaiian? Girls wanted their song director to be fluent in Hawaiian while boys said they would like that as well but also, it didn’t matter whether the director knew Hawaiian or not.

  11. Does popularity matter with votes? • Yes • No

  12. Does popularity matter with votes? All of the boys surveyed said that popularity did matter when it comes to votes. Girls on the other hand were split. Saying that popularity had some affect (by looking at the survey).

  13. Do you enjoy song contest? • Yes • No

  14. Do you enjoy song contest? When boys and girls were asked this this question, they all replied yes.

  15. What do you enjoy about song contest? • Everything • Nothing • Don’t Care • Don’t Know

  16. What do you enjoy about song contest? The most answers for this question was “everything”. But their was was one “Don’t Know”. Basically, from the results of this survey, everyone likes song contest.

  17. Should the song director have a background in music? • Yes • No • Would Help • Don’t Know

  18. Should the song director have a background in music? Most of the answers were “Would Help” indicating that students don’t really care if a director has a background in music and this won’t affect voting scores. But they are also saying, by looking at the results, that it would be good if the candidate did. More interest.

  19. Does the student body have a big responsibly in choosing a song leader? • Yes • No • Maybe • Don’t Know

  20. Does the student body have a big responsibly in choosing a song leader? More of the students voted “Yes” for this question but it is also followed by “Maybe” and “Don’t Know”. Showing that many students have different opinions on this subject.

  21. How satisfied are you with your song directors? • Yes • No • Maybe • Don’t Know

  22. How satisfied are you with your song directors? More of the students that I surveyed were more “Satisfied” with their song directors then any other question. This question can be affected whether the class has done good or bad in the song contest.

  23. Does song directors have responsibility? • Yes • No • Maybe • Don’t Know

  24. Does song directors have responsibility? When students were asked this question more boys and girls voted for “Yes” which states that, students look up to their director and they feel that they need to have a good leader. Votes seem to not differ between a day student, a border student, a boy, or a girl

  25. Who would know more about the Hawaiian language? • Boarder Students • Day Students

  26. Who would know more about the Hawaiian language? Based on the survey more students said that “Boarder students” would know more about the Hawaiian language. These results might show why borders are elected more often then their day student counterparts. Students may feel that if the director knows the language it benefits the class when it comes to the interpretation and understanding of the songs

  27. Summary • My Hypothesis: There will be no difference between a day student, a boarder student, a boy, and/or a girl upon voting for a song leader. My hypothesis was correct. And the question that told me this was “Does popularity matter with votes”?
