  1. Fort Defiance High school 2011-2012 Goals

We seek to improve student instructional performance through the following: • Explore peer tutoring options and mentoring. • Continue to utilize Alternative Education options such as GED, Special Schedules, Online Programs, Etc…. • 1% increase school wide with SOL and Pass Advanced rates. • Seek to increase to 96% daily attendance rates for students. • Continue utilization of FD Pride and STARS programs.

  3. We seek to improve student instructional performance through the following:(Cont.) • Utilization of Pre-Teacher Assistance Team instructional strategies by all staff as part of best teaching practices. • Continue administrator support for all students failing a class at progress report and report card times. • Continue the use of technology and expand the integration of technology to enhance student academic achievement.

  4. We seek to maintain and increase AYP objectives through: • Support of Career and Technical Education programs, Mentorship, Employment for Education, and Ag-Co Op. • Increase Standard and Advanced diploma rates by 1%. • Increase Advanced Placement and/or Dual Enrollment participation by 1%. • Utilize career coach to increase student awareness of career and educational options by meeting with 25% of student body each year in individual, group, and/or classroom settings.

We seek to maintain and increase AYP objectives through:(cont.) • Promote student understanding of real life applications of academic programs by integration of these applications in lesson plans and daily lesson objectives. • Promote greater awareness between feeder schools to decrease drop-out rate and increase drop-in rate through collaboration, communication, and cooperation by the following: • Joint staff development. • Course offerings. • Creative scheduling. • Vertical cooperative teaming between Behavior Specialists and Guidance Departments at all levels.

  6. We seek to develop students as good citizens through: • Continue utilization of positive school wide behavior support such as: • Acts of Kindness program. • Rewards at six weeks with cards. • Behavior Intervention Specialist working with high potential students. • Increase faculty use of Super Achiever awards for students that show significant improvement. • Continue to seek innovative ways to deal with inappropriate use of electronic devices by students.

  7. We seek to develop students as good citizens through:(cont.) • Continue use of cycle cards on club days. • Continue In-School Suspension as an alternative to Out of School Suspension. • Maintain school wide Anti-Bullying campaign such as “Mix it up day”, Daily words of Wisdom, and Club Day presentations. • Continue faculty presence in hallways to monitor student behavior before and after school and during transitions between classes.

  8. We seek to promote greater connection to the community by: • Continue usage of Global Connect and school website. • Further develop teacher use of Schoolwires.

  9. We seek to promote greater connection to the community by:(cont.) • Promote positive teacher / parent communication utilizing: • Good News cards. • STARbase, e-mail, and G-Mail. • Volunteer of the Year. • Hall of Fame. • Explore grading software programs that parents can access during specified times.

  10. We seek to promote greater connection to the community by:(cont.) • Increase communication between parents and faculty using: • Mail • G-mail • Phone • School-wide effort to promote and encourage increased parent/teacher conference attendance. • Local community agencies display of services available to the community during new student/parent orientation and parent/ teacher conferences.
