  1. Few/Less • Few/fewer/fewest are used to denote items that can be individually counted. The store has had few customers. This car requires fewer gallons of gas than my old one. • Little/less/least are used to denote amounts of things. These things cannot be individually counted, but may be measured. We had less rain this month than last. Of all of our choices, this car requires the least gas.
