Disorders of the Male Reproductive System. Sterility. When a person is unable to reproduce. Both Males and Females can be sterile. Males are unable to produce healthy sperm. This may be due to environmental factors such as chemical exposure.

  1. Disorders of the Male Reproductive System

  2. Sterility • When a person is unable to reproduce. • Both Males and Females can be sterile. • Males are unable to produce healthy sperm. • This may be due to environmental factors such as chemical exposure. • Medical research is discovering more about the causes of sterility and how it can be prevented.

  3. Undescended Testes • This is when one of the testes does not descend into the scrotum at birth. • This does not necessarily cause medical problems and is not considered a disease. • But sperm may not develop properly in an undescended testis.

  4. Inguinal Hernia • A hernia occurs when part of the intestine pushes into the scrotum through a weak spot in the wall near the scrotum. • Surgery is almost always necessary to fix this.

  5. Enlarged Prostate • A common problem in men after middle age. • Can cause some pain and discomfort. • Surrounds the urethra so may make it painful or difficult to urinate.

  6. Cancer of the Prostate and Testes • Cancer is an uncontrolled cell growth that invades the surrounding tissue and destroys it. • Prostate is the most common in men. • Testicular cancer occurs in men between the ages of 15 and 34.

  7. Keeping the Reproductive System Healthy • Cleanliness • Protection / Prevention – Wearing protection during athletic activity. • Tight Clothing should be avoided • Lifting Heavy Objects – Avoid a hernia • Frequent Medical Exams
